ICASSP 2026 Legacy Program: Signals of Change

Advancing Barcelona’s Urban Environment through Signal Processing

ICASSP 2026 extends its impact beyond the technical sessions. Through the “Signals of Change” Legacy Program, the Organizing Committee and the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) are partnering with the Barcelona Convention Bureau to apply signal processing research to urgent urban challenges, specifically air quality and acoustic contamination.

To participate, please join us at the meeting point at the CCIB near the main entrance at the following times:

  • Tuesday, May 5

    • Conscious Run at 07:00

    • Conscious Walk at 17:30

  • Thursday, May 7

    • Conscious Walk at 17:30

Core Initiatives

  • Mobile Sensing & Conscious Routes: In collaboration with CTTC and the Barcelona Convention Bureau, we are deploying portable IoT sensors to map environmental data across conscious routes in the city. This data provides real-time insights into urban well-being and informs future policy.
  • XatAire (AI Community Tool): A pilot AI chatbot designed to translate complex air quality datasets into accessible, automated analysis for the public.

Attendee Involvement: Help Us Build the Legacy

We invite all ICASSP attendees to contribute their expertise and time to these local initiatives:

  • Participate in Data Collection: Volunteer to carry a portable sensor during your time in Barcelona to help build our city-wide environmental map.
  • Technical Optimization: Provide expert feedback or development support to refine the XatAire chatbot’s underlying signal processing models.
  • Global Advocacy: Help us document and share the program’s results to demonstrate the real-world impact of signal processing to the global community.
